Q3.

An 80 year-old man fell off a ladder sustaining a cervical spine injury, confirmed on MRI. He was intubated at the scene for reduced GCS. He had a normal CT brain and follows commands (e.g. pokes out tongue) but has no limb movements. He breathes spontaneously with low tidal volumes on pressure support ventilation and has a weak cough. Following discussion with the trauma team and the spinal surgeon it is determined that surgical intervention will not be of benefit and that no meaningful recovery will occur.
